The In Crowd and Those Without

The building was beautiful

and it took a lot of attention

to keep it perfect

without

and within

hours were spent on

meetings

about costume

songs

and the appropiate clothing

to sing them in

all the while doubting

whether show business people

can really ever find salvation

no one would discuss

all the little secrets

of home

the depression

the unforgiveness

the mother they refused to visit

or pay any attention to

the gossip

and quiet condemnation

were the fault

of those whom they would shun

for good reason

can I get an amen?

sins are something

everybody else does

let’s keep all the little secrets

just between us

and they won’t exist

besides

if we say enough words

who needs the sort of action

that is evidence

of the Spirit working within?

yes, they were believers

lined up in rows

of rigid wooden pews

they believed in themselves

and their works of perfection

that they were sure would save them

from the world

they were strong enough

to hide themselves away from

even though God himself

told them to go there

in faith

well, there were still a few

there always seems to be a radical few

who take things too far

but it was pretty clear

to everyone

that they were wrong

in saying that if the Spirit of truth

were really at work

it would be lived out in every day life

and so the world was forgotten

and so was the world to come

it actually became the in thing

for awhile

but as time went on

all the time

invested into the building

of perfection

crumbled into nothing

and all the time

those radical few

gave to the humans without

lived on

because only humans

have eternal value

in the light of heaven
