Faded Fire

Flickers

of orange

wink out

one

after another

while a finger

of grey

stirs

the currents

of air

as the bitterness

of ash

coaxes tears

from a face

twisted by emotion

oh for a match

to spark

a fire

like there used to be

here in the bitter smoke

hovering over a pit

of dying flame

oh for a song

to light these lips

and burn

away the black within
