Caught Holding the Bag

It’s simple really

it’s black and white

they’re wrong

and I never make a mistake

it is said that everyone needs something

something to hold on to

something bigger than

far bigger than themselves

that’s why I can’t let go

I can’t let go of what they said

as I stagger through the day

bearing the burden

of what used to be

it’s black and white

what is there to discuss

I know

I know it’s just a dirty old bag

full of broken stone

but without it

I’d have nothing at all

to drag behind me
