After Colors Fade

Once green

sang through the trees

of summer

once yellow

fell faded to the forest floor

of fall

and now

that my year

has turned a shade of pale

after all that it has seen

going wrong

I know that another picture

is waiting to be drawn

on this pure canvas of white

that the storm

has left behind

on the frozen ground
