We can keep ourselves to ourselves

in our efforts to stay pure

in this filthy rain

we can take pride in everything we’ve done

and everything we don’t

but we’re all drenched

in the consequences of everything we’ve done

and left undone

yet despite all this pain

we have given out

and taken

we can be forgiven

and forgiving

and this

is the only umbrella

that can keep us dry

in the violent storm
